CBI Pictures has confirmed that Gintama the Movie: Yoshiwara in Flames will be screened in Indonesian cinemas. While the premiere date has not been announced yet, two cinema chains in Indonesia have confirmed that they will screen the film. They are Cinepolis Indonesia and CGV Cinemas Indonesia.
Gintama the Movie: Yoshiwara in Flames is the theatrical version of the Yoshiwara in Flames arc from the Gintama manga. The story follows Gintoki, Kagura, and Shinpachi as they travel to the red-light district of Yoshiwara to rescue a boy named Seita, who is searching for his mother, Hinowa.
The film is produced to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Gintama franchise. Previously, the Yoshiwara in Flames arc was aired as episodes 139 to 146 of the Gintama television anime series. For this theatrical release, the animation has been newly reanimated by Bandai Namco Pictures, a subsidiary of Sunrise.
The original Gintama manga was created by Hideaki Sorachi. It tells the story of a samurai named Gintoki Sakata who runs an odd jobs service after the fall of the shogunate at the hands of a group of aliens. Together with his friends Shinpachi and Kagura, they encounter many weird things and situations to survive in the alternate history version of Edo.
Previously, CBI Pictures also screened the “last” Gintama film, Gintama The Very Final, in Indonesia. The film was screened in Indonesia in 2021 and adapts the final chapters of the manga, with extra materials added in. The manga itself finished its serialisation in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2019.
