On Saturday (23/5), the organisers of the Djakarta Ennichi 2026 event announced that their event, which was scheduled to take place on 23-24 May 2026 at Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta, has officially been cancelled. The announcement was made just a few hours before the event started.

In their statement, the Djakarta Ennichi 2026 team cited technical and operational issues as the main reasons behind the cancellation. The organisers also apologised to visitors and participants for the sudden announcement.

The event was initially planned to be held on 6-7 September 2025 in the Kota Tua area of North Jakarta. However, the schedule was later postponed to 16-17 May 2026 before being moved once again to 23-24 May 2026 at Lapangan Banteng in Central Jakarta.

According to the event rundown, the first day stage performance will begin at 09:00 in the morning. However, around 02:00, the organisers posted the cancellation announcement on their social media.

As an event, Djakarta Ennichi 2026 was created to revive the spirit of authentic Japanese cultural festivals in Jakarta, and as the successor of Ennichisai Blok M, a Japanese culture event held annually in the Blok M area, Jakarta, from 2010 to 2019. Djakarta Ennichi 2026 is organised by Zhuge Kreatif Indonesia, with support from the Jakarta Provincial Government and Asosiasi Budaya Jepang Indonesia (Indonesian Association of Japanese Culture).

Similar to its predecessor, the festival was set to feature a combination of traditional Japanese culture and modern pop culture entertainment. Planned programmes included taiko performances, yosakoi, bon odori, live band appearances, dance cover performances, idol stages, and cosplay competitions.
